atelier aL
architecture + art + urbanismAtelier aL: architecture | art | urbanism
We design projects that promote thoughtful and sustainable interactions with cities, nature, and culture. Our work is a dialogue between the tangible and the conceptual.
The studio, and our collaborators, move fluidly between architecture, fine art, and ecology - blurring these boundaries intentionally. We examine our artistic motives to refine our craft, aiming to provoke thought, blend with nature and elevate everyday experience.
Our work creates projects that amplify connections between experience and place.

More about us:
Adam Lanman is a licensed architect and the founder of Atelier aL, a design-forward practice based in Oklahoma. Since 2020, the studio has focused on creating enduring, place-based architecture rooted in environmental responsibility, material clarity, and contextual sensitivity. The work ranges from modest infill to public interest design, with an emphasis on small-scale, high-impact projects that engage both the physical and cultural landscape.
He holds a Master of Architecture from Cornell University, where he concentrated in Advanced Architectural Design, Theory, and Theatre Aesthetics. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oklahoma and also holds a degree in Biology from Northern Oklahoma College—an interdisciplinary foundation that informs his commitment to ecological thinking and climate-responsive design.
Lanman’s approach to architecture is grounded in a disciplined sensitivity to site, climate, and material. These values were reinforced through direct study with Pritzker Prize–winning architect Glenn Murcutt, whose teachings emphasized restraint, ecological responsiveness, and a deep respect for place. Earlier academic experiences also instilled a commitment to socially engaged practice and contextual refinement—principles that continue to guide the studio’s work today. Atelier aL remains focused on creating buildings that are quiet in presence, thoughtful in detail, and enduring in both form and function.
The studio’s work has been recognized with multiple AIA Design Excellence Awards and featured in publications including PLAIN Magazine, Dwell, and 405 Magazine. This growing recognition reflects the momentum of the practice and its continued efforts to produce thoughtful, site-responsive architecture at a high level of craft and care.
