atelier aL
architecture + art + urbanismAtelier aL: architecture | art | urbanism
We design projects that promote thoughtful and sustainable interactions with cities, nature, and culture. They are a dialogue between the tangible and the conceptual.
Our studio moves fluidly between architecture and fine art, blurring their boundaries intentionally. We examine our artistic motives to refine our craft, aiming to provoke thought and elevate everyday experience.
Our work and collaborations create projects that amplify connections between experience and place.

More about us:
Adam Lanman is a licensed architect and the founder of Atelier aL, a design-forward practice based in Oklahoma. Since 2020, the studio has focused on creating enduring, place-based architecture rooted in environmental responsibility, material clarity, and contextual sensitivity. The work ranges from modest infill to public interest design, with an emphasis on small-scale, high-impact projects that engage both the physical and cultural landscape.
He holds a Master of Architecture from Cornell University, where he concentrated in Advanced Architectural Design, Theory, and Theatre Aesthetics. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oklahoma and also holds a degree in Biology from Northern Oklahoma College—an interdisciplinary foundation that informs his commitment to ecological thinking and climate-responsive design.
Lanman’s approach to architecture has been shaped by direct study under three influential figures: Samuel Mockbee, Jim Olson, and Glenn Murcutt. From Mockbee, he gained a deep appreciation for socially engaged design; from Olson, an understanding of contextual refinement and material expression; and from Murcutt, a disciplined commitment to site, climate, and restraint. Their lasting influence continues to inform the studio’s work and values.
The studio’s work has been recognized with multiple AIA Design Excellence Awards and featured in publications including PLAIN Magazine, Dwell, and 405 Magazine. This growing recognition reflects the momentum of the practice and its continued efforts to produce thoughtful, site-responsive architecture at a high level of craft and care.
Studio Collaborators:
Jacey Watson, Assoc. AIA, Project Designer
Amber Webster, Marketing and Studio Coordinator
Hulen Howard, Assoc. AIA, Project Designer
David Brewer, AIA, NCARB
Tollie Pugh, Assoc. AIA, Project Designer
